"Tales from the Catholic Church of Elvis!" Film Premiere to Feature Complimentary Condoms and Backscratchers

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) May 27, 2009 -- Two controversial Catholic Church-themed movies are playing this summer film season. But only one of them gives you a condom and backscratcher with your movie ticket. That one is "Tales from the Catholic Church of Elvis!" which premieres June 1st at the Hoboken International Film Festival in Hoboken, NJ.

"Tales" is based on the true-life experiences of writer Mercy Malick, who also stars and directs. In a series of hilarious yet poignant vignettes,"Tales" explores the impossible absurdities and contractions that permeate growing up as a Catholic school girl in Las Vegas. The eclectic cast of characters includes God, Jesus, Elvis, a voyeuristic nun, a lecherous octogenarian amputee, mobsters, and showgirls. Against the odds, young Mercy survives and learns that even in the craziness that is Las Vegas, humanity survives and triumphs.

Asked if "Tales," which features adult film legend Ron Jeremy as the voice of God, is anti-Catholic, Malick retorted: "How can a film that in which a teen-aged girl raves 'isn't Pope John the 23rd rad!' be anti-Catholic?"

So what about the condoms and backscratchers? "In addition to the laughter and positive message, we wanted to leave the audience with some concrete but just as useful mementos from the film," explains Malick. "We considered amputated finger-containing soft drink cups and poop-filled pizza boxes, which also have roles in the film, but decided there might be some audience members who wouldn't have a good use for them. So we decided on backscratchers and condoms, which are universally useful."
