Food Bank fights Tech for good cause
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia will join The Atlanta Community Food Bank during the "Beat Tech Food Fight" between the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech to see which school can raise the most food for its community.

The drive will be held through Nov. 25.
The friendly rivalry began last year when the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, looking for ways to engage the community, came across a food fight rivalry between Auburn and Alabama, which raised more than 100,000 pounds of food between the two schools for the Iron Bowl.
John Becker, president of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, said the program last year had a great turnout.
"We were able to engage the community and they brought in over 25,000 pounds worth of food. That's almost a tractor-trailer load," he said. "The students are really fired up about this."
Twenty-five thousand pounds of food translates into more than 19,000 meals for needy Northeast Georgia residents. This year, the food bank's goal is to collect 50,000 pounds of food, enough to create more than 39,000 meals.
Although the food fight specifically challenges UGA and Georgia Tech student organizations, anyone can jump into the friendly competition.
